Frequently Asked Questions
At Kind Aligned Hearts, we believe every individual and family deserves to feel heard, understood, and supported. We partner with families to provide thoughtful, individualized psychiatric care that honors each person's unique strengths, challenges, and goals
What ages do you see?Â
We provide psychiatric services for children, adolescents, and young adults ages 5–30. On a case by case basis we will sometimes see older adults. We tailor our approach to each person's developmental stage, individual needs, and family circumstances.
1
What services do you offer?
Our services include comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and individualized treatment planning. We emphasize a collaborative approach that may include family support, psychotherapy when appropriate, and coordination with schools, therapists, primary care providers, and other specialists.
2
What concerns can you help with?
We evaluate and treat a range of emotional, behavioral, and mental health concerns. These may include anxiety, depression, ADHD, ASD, mood difficulties, emotional regulation challenges, behavioral concerns, and difficulties affecting relationships, school, or daily functioning.
3
What happens during the first appointment?
The initial appointment is an opportunity for us to understand your concerns, learn about your child's history and strengths, and discuss what has been challenging. Depending on the child's age and needs, we may meet with parents or caregivers, the child or young adult, or both.
Together, we will discuss our impressions, consider appropriate treatment options, and develop a plan that reflects your family's goals.

5
Do parents or caregivers participate in appointments?
Yes, when appropriate. Family involvement can be an important part of treatment, particularly for younger children. We also recognize the importance of privacy, independence, and trust as children grow into adolescence and young adulthood. We strive to balance family collaboration with each patient's developmental needs and confidentiality.
Do you prescribe medication?
Medication may be one component of treatment when clinically appropriate. We take a thoughtful, individualized approach, discussing potential benefits, risks, alternatives, and monitoring needs with patients and families before making treatment decisions.

Medication is not the only approach to mental health care, and recommendations are based on each person's individual circumstances.
6
Do you provide psychotherapy?
We incorporate a supportive, therapeutic approach into our work and consider the role of psychotherapy as part of a comprehensive treatment plan. When ongoing individual or family psychotherapy would be beneficial, we can discuss appropriate options.

Please contact us to confirm the specific psychotherapy services currently available through our practice.
7
Do you collaborate with schools, therapists, and other providers?
Yes. With appropriate consent and authorization, we value collaboration with schools, therapists, primary care clinicians, and other professionals involved in a patient's care. We believe coordinated communication can help create a more consistent and supportive environment for children and families.
8
Do you accept insurance?
Please contact our office to ask about current payment options, insurance participation, and whether out-of-network documentation or superbills are available. We encourage families to check their insurance benefits directly, as coverage and reimbursement vary by plan
9
What are your fees?
Fees depend on the type and length of appointment and the services provided. Please contact our office for current rates and information about payment policies before scheduling.
10

What if my child is nervous about seeing a psychiatrist and/or psychiatric NP?
It is completely understandable for children and parents to feel uncertain about a first appointment. Our goal is to create a welcoming, respectful space where patients and families can ask questions and share concerns at their own pace. We approach care with curiosity, compassion, and an appreciation for each individual's experience.
12
Will my child receive a diagnosis at the first visit?
Sometimes an initial evaluation provides enough information to identify a diagnosis and begin treatment planning. In other situations, additional history, rating scales, school information, or follow-up visits may be needed. We prioritize a careful, thoughtful understanding of your child rather than rushing to conclusions.
13
What if we are not sure whether our child needs psychiatric care?
You do not need to have all the answers before reaching out. If emotional, behavioral, or attention-related concerns are affecting your child's well-being, relationships, or everyday life, an evaluation may help clarify what is happening and identify helpful next steps.
14
Do you provide emergency or crisis services?
Kind Aligned Hearts is an outpatient practice and is not a substitute for emergency or crisis care. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. In the United States, call or text 988 for crisis support.
